Last week, the Tucson Mayor and Council unanimously approved a major amendment to the Los Reales Planned Area Development (PAD)—paving the way for the#LosRealesSustainabilityCampus.
Over the past two years,The Planning Centerhas had the privilege of working alongside theCity of Tucson‘s Environmental Services Department to reimagine the Los Reales landfill. What started in 2006 as a plan for long-term landfill operations has evolved into a bold vision for sustainability—turning waste into a resource, fueling economic opportunity, and creating spaces that serve our community for generations. The new Los Reales Sustainability Campus PAD will bring together: ✅ Waste reclamation and resource recovery ✅ Eco-commerce and green jobs ✅ Community education and resources ✅ Expanded open space and recreation areas All of this supports Tucson’s ambitious climate goals and transforms the way we think about waste management. A huge thank you to theCity of Tucsonfor allowing us to be part of your team on this transformative project. We’re proud to help shape a future where sustainability and community go hand-in-hand.
